In this pre-twinkle introduction to the Suzuki Method, parents and children ages approximately 3 to 5 will learn the basics of the Suzuki Method for violin with singing and fun violin related activities. The intention of the class is to prepare parents and prospective students for private and group instruction. We will explore how to stand and hold the violin with a Cherub Box Violin & Bow (approx. $10 value included in the price of the class) that we will decorate learn to play a song. Then take it home to practice and play together with parents.

The ABC’s of Mindfulness is an introduction for children approximately 3 to 5 to learn the fundamentals of mindful concepts through word play and movement in a calming and judgement free environment with the author of The Mindful Cat picture book, Amy Kwan Mei Cheung. Parents can learn tools to help their children to connect to a sense of inner peace, identify their emotions, let go of agitating states of mind, and develop compassion and gratitude for the kindness of others.

Young children can explore the orchestra instrument families (strings, woodwinds, brass, keyboard & percussion) with a live demonstration each week from various faculty members of Cortelyou Music & Play. Kids will enjoy a variety of styles of music in digestible bite sized portions and play with a variety of musical toys. They will also get to touch and in some cases play the real instruments.

This class is mainly geared toward children that will soon be able to start private lessons (3-5) however it is open to older children and toddlers as well.

We will explore improvisational music, beloved classic children's songs and nursery rhymes in a safe, structured, playful, and inclusive environment. No musical experience needed!
